Jamie House Lecture

Jamie House: Camera obscura building and Pinhole camera.

He showed us some of the projects he had done and is working on...
Pinhole Parcel Project... Posted pinhole camera's to different people all over the world, anywhere from 24 hour exposure to 336 hours. Focused on the journey of light. Subject out of his hands, photography is about the process of making an image.
Joe Babcock Collaboration... Pinhole journey project. Posted the pinhole box to and from each other until the front was covered with postage stamps, last stamp covering the pinhole. Second project posting to and fro adding pinholes to the box.
Englands Largest Camera Oscurer... 7m wide blacked out tent. One normal, one rear projection and one multi-image.
Slit projection camera obscurer. Aristotle theory of light, separating light colour with prism.. Made each tent different colours. One green, one red and one blue using slit projection and blocking off prisms.
Stranger mail art... Pinhole image of self (30 sec) Posted to stranger, they take image of themself and post back. Double exposure portraits.
Stranger memories... Long exposure on digital. Computer screen looking through strangers photo albums online. Multiple exposures.

Influenced by cubism, victorian spirit photography, postal art, John Hilliard,Nancy Burson...

I found the lecture facinating. I had no idea that all these different sorts of things could be done with a pinhole camera. I loved the creativity and imagination that went into the different projects. After the lecture he ran a workshop where we could make our own pinhol camera's which was loads of fun and he was very friendly and helpful. I made this picture... (very unflattering but loads of fun)....
